We enjoyed a beautiful Saturday together as a family at Freestone Park. Devin and Zander fed the ducks, although Zander was more interested in eating the bread himself. We took a train ride around the park and Zander rode the carousel, ferris wheel, and jet ski ride. It only affirmed what we've been thinking for a while now - Zander is ready for Disneyland.

We spent the weekend with our friends in Show Low. It was great to get away and enjoy the snow up in the mountains. The guys went snowboarding and the learned the consequences of eating Indian Tacos at the lodge. Us girls relaxed at the house with the babies and enjoyed long afternoon naps and playing Rummikub. Zander loved seeing Grandma Judi and playing with Bristol and Alice.

I can't believe it's been a year already! I love this crazy, stressful thing I call my job. I've never felt so challenged, laughed out loud to the point of tears, been frustrated to the point of tears, seen as many funny forwarded emails about animals and favorite office quotes, or truly had pride in performing my job. One of my coworkers often says that we've all been ruined from working anywhere else. It's true. How can we work in a normal office environment after this? I mean, we once had someone dress up as a Teletubbie after losing a bet. This place is awesome and I feel lucky to be a part of the team.

20 Months Old

* Weighs approx 23 lbs. * Loves it when I tell him he looks handsome. * Wants to be independent and get's mad when I try to help him. * He’s been sick off and on this month. It seems that when one of us gets sick, that we pass it around to each other. It started with a fever and congestion and ended with a stomach bug which he threw up for the first time. * He is trying to talk all the time now and we feel he is on the cusp actually talking for real. I love giving him new words to say and hearing how it ends up sounding as he says it. New words this month – be nice, mine, guys, stinky, my all time favorite ewww. After I fart, he'll say "eww". Funniest thing ever! * He is my little social butterfly. He is not afraid of strangers. In fact, he wants to talk to them, share whatever food he has, and is sure to show off whatever toy he is holding at the time.* Is a fan of soda and I’m sad to say that he likes Dr. Pepper. * Still a mama's boy and loves to cuddle under the blankets together. * Likes to roll down the window in the car and wave bye to everyone. *

Big Boy Bed

I think we were more excited than Zander to transform his crib into a toddler bed. All he wanted to do was jump on the bed and turn the lights off and on. It should be an interesting first night in the big boy bed.

Devin got to camp and hiked up the Superstition Mountain with the scouts this past weekend. They hiked to the Flat Iron which is a strenuous 6 mile round trip hike straight up the mountain. Devin stayed at the back of the pack with some of the scouts that were having trouble and made it about 250 ft from the top before they met up with the rest of the troop who was making their way down. Due to time constraints they had to descend. He is bummed that he made it so close and didn't make it all the way to the top. We made it a goal to return to the Superstitions in a few weeks to do the hike together and make it to the top.

Kids today know how to navigate an iPad before they can talk and walk.

Zander knows how to turn on, unlock, and navigate through the different pages to find his apps. He plays with Elmo Loves His ABCs, Elmo's Monster Maker, and Netflix to watch Yo Gabba Gabba. Sometimes I see him attempting Angry Birds or Cut the Rope and he gets mad if I try to help him. I think if he knew our password, he would buy apps from the App Store. Devin and I have to fight over the iPad with him. It usually ends with lots of crying and talk of it being "mine". Devin has created an electronic monster!

Another day, another park to explore. I rode my bike down to the park by our pool which was a major trek since I didn't realize one of the wheels on the bike trailer was flat. I felt the burn in my legs and it didn't help that I took the scenic way to get there either. At the park, we played and had a little picnic. It was fun to watch Zander interact and chat with the other kids, mimic their actions, and even attempt to steal their scooter. My little social butterfly.

I Wish I Was A Little Bit Taller

With our little Z being a preemie, we knew it would take time for him to catch up in weight and height. He is in the 3rd percentile for his age. He is slowly catching up and I love to see his progress at his doctor appointments. He is starting to fit into 12 month clothes which is crazy to think about since he is almost 20 months old. Some of the clothes are still too big and pants are the worst with his tiny waist and legs. When I was out shopping and saw this shirt, I knew I had to buy it. It fits him perfectly.

The Bounz House

Since I had the day off work with the MLK holiday, Zander and I went to the Bounz House with the Spilsburys. It was our first time there and the $5 fee was worth it. Two giant rooms filled with slides, obstacle courses, and bounce houses. Zander was in heaven! We spent fun-filled two hours playing and by the time we left, Zander was fast asleep in the car.

I love days when we go to the park. I love that it's winter and 80's degrees in Arizona. I love that I'm wearing flip flops and shorts right now. I love this crazy little dude and his wild hair. I love that he slides down the slide backwards even though it makes him go so fast that he slides right off into the sand. I love playing peekaboo through the railings. I love the "wee" sound I hear as I push him in the swing. I love that his pants are too short and I can see his little ankles. I love walking home knowing that we'll get to see our other love when we get there.

Zander and I got to attend Fia and Angela's baby shower this past weekend. Fia is expecting little Sofia and Angela is expecting Konnor 4 days apart from each other in February. We ate food, played games, opened presents, and I just may have won the baby bottle chugging contest. It was great seeing Lisa, Soleil, and Beth (who just returned home from her mission) as well. I miss hanging out with these girls.

The Clawson's hosted Nacho Average New Years Party at their house this year. We ate nachos, played games, and welcomed in the New Year with good friends. Zander made it to midnight so I was able to kiss both of my boys.

2011 in Review

2011 was a great year for us. Here are some highlights:

We watched as Zander learned to crawl, take his first steps, and finally walk.
Devin and I went on a week long cruise to Mexico with the entire Merrill family. Para sailing, zip lining, snorkling, scooter riding, and just pure relaxation and fun. We also learned that we can survive a week long vacation without our baby although we were pointing out all the kids and babies we saw during the week.
Devin graduated from Central Arizona College with an Associates Degree in Business.
Zander turned 1!
Devin and I both got new jobs which we love.
We bought a new family car. It fits 8 so it should last us a long time.
The IPad - our lives will never be the same.
I got released from primary only be called back within 2 months.
Jason & Lauren's wedding in the Salt Lake Temple.
We learned that Zander has curly hair. He is absolutely a mini Lisette with Devin's outgoing personality and love for electronics.
Celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary with a weekend getaway to Flagstaff.
Devin is now the 2nd counselor in the Young Mens presidency.
All of our friends moved out of Johnson Ranch, but we reunited in Utah for a long weekend together.

I'm excited to see what 2012 has in store for us. Maybe a new baby? New house? Some awesome trips? New friends? Devin continuing with his education? Spending quality time with family? We shall see.

Is constantly jibber jabbing and we have no clue what he is saying half of the time. He added some new words to his vocabulary including eyes, Mimi, no, Papa, nose, Brobee (from Yo Gabba) , Nana. * Celebrated his 2nd Christmas & now is the proud owner of 3 Elmos and a bike. * He's been teething this month. Lots of drool and sticking his fingers into his mouth. Those teeth need to come in already! *Zander does the cutest head nod and smirk as we turn on his favorite tv show. I like to think he is saying, "oh yeah" * Mimics everything we do. He saw Devin bite me, so he bit me. He folds his arms, bows his head, and prays to himself after we do it. Good and bad, we have to watch what we are doing. * Is obsessed with stacking and lining up things - remotes, blocks, shoes, crayons. * Loves watching tv and movies, but is not a good movie theater watcher. We have to start leaving him with a sitter when we go to the movies otherwise one of us ends up in the hall. * Rode a horse for the first time and I've never seen a bigger smile on his face. *He can open the doors in our house thanks to our fancy door handles. One day I was looking for something in the kitchen and thought it was too quiet. When I called for Zander and started searching the house, I noticed the front door was open. Just as I went outside one of the neighbors was coming up the drive to ask if I had a baby because he was running down the side walk. As I look down the sidewalk, there he is with no pants or shoes on running down to Kylie's house. Needless to say, we keep the front door locked all the time now. *

Zander and I got to meet up with my friend Randi and her kids for lunch. Randi is my good friend from high school who I like to think helped me come out of my shell. Yes - I was even more quiet and shy back then. Oh the days of Apache Junction High. French class with Mademoiselle Setliff, listening to NSync and Backstreet Boys, cheering Randi on at her basketball games, and getting into mischief toliet papering the high school. It's crazy to think that it's been 10 years already! It was great to catch up.

I am in no ways a good cook. I have my rotation of dishes I make on a weekly basis and more times than not, we eat cereal for dinner. My brother has mentioned to me that he's surprised that I'm not a good cook since I'm good at so many things. I don't know how I missed the mark at cooking. One thing I can make is grilled cheese sandwiches. It's my all time favorite. For this reason I was so excited to get a panini maker and panini cookbook for Christmas. I can make fancy grilled sandwiches now! I made our first panini for dinner and it was delicious. Chicken, bacon, cheese, avocado, and tomato on sour dough bread. My mouth is watering thinking about it.

Christmas

I love that we live so close to our families, but it can also make for a crazy holiday trying to coordinate schedules. This Christmas we opted to spend Christmas morning at home opening gifts and eating breakfast with Grandma and Grandpa Wooskie. Zander got a Radio Flyer scoot bike from Santa and a Yo Gabba Gabba radio, Elmo pjs, Magna Doodle, and puzzles from us.

After breakfast, we headed to the Merrills to open gifts and eat another breakfast. They spent the morning feeding the homeless in Phoenix like we've done the previous two years. Santa (aka Mamma Merrill) always out does himself each year. I got an awesome panini maker and cookbook. Devin got a camping lounge chair and tools to finally start a tool kit for himself. Zander got more Elmo and Yo Gabba stuff. He is in absolute heaven with all his new stuff.

After the Merrills, we headed back home to finish the evening with the Powells and Mum & Al. We had a delicious dinner and then enjoyed football, watching Zander dance, and remembering why we celebrate Christmas.

Our ward had a breakfast Christmas party complete with decorating cookies, making cards, crafts, and Santa. We thought we would give Santa another try, but Zander had the same response when he saw him last week. I'm not sure why Zander doesn't like Santa. He's big and red just like his favorite pal Elmo. The candy cane didn't persuade him either. I guess we will try next year.

Oh Christmas Tree

We finally have a Christmas tree and it's 10 feet tall! I guess one perk of waiting until the week before Christmas to get a tree is that the lot wants to get rid of them and we got a great deal on this one. It was an adventure trying to decorate it and get the star on the top, but I think it ended up beautiful. I love the smell of pine lingering through the house. I just have to keep an eye out for little fingers who want to take the decorations off of it.

I had good intentions of sending Christmas cards this year. Now it's a week and a half until Christmas and there is no tree at our house, hardly any presents bought, and no Christmas card out to our family or friends. We are procrastinators! I love Christmas, but it seems to creep up faster and faster each year. With working and other responsibilities, I just don't seem to have enough time to get anything done. We are going out tonight to buy a tree and I hope to get the rest of my shopping done this weekend. Can I count this post as our Christmas card?

Johnson Ranch Holiday Parade

Johnson Ranch has a holiday parade each year. The cub scouts and boy scouts decided to decorate their bikes and ride in the parade, so Zander and I woke up early so we could watch. We sat with the Robinsons and Roberts from our ward. Zander enjoyed chewing through the wrappers to eat his candy and rocking out to the music from the band.

18 Month Appointment Stats

Zander had his 18 month check up with Dr. Jones. He cried the whole time and didn't want to be touched. I had to hold him in my lap and he was kicking and fighting every thing. Dr. Jones said he is really strong and growing perfectly. He is in the 3rd percentile for his age, but has been growing steadily since he was born. His next appointment is in 6 months when he'll be 2. It's hard to believe that - 2 already! For right now, Dr. Jones recommended to start giving 1 minute time outs when he's naughty (which he's already been having) and to start talking about pee, poop, and how the body works for the beginning stages of potty training.

Work Christmas Party #2

My holiday party was at Modern Steak in Scottsdale. We rented out the entire restaurant and started the night with mingling and cocktail hour. After having some fun in the photobooth, we sat down for dinner and enjoyed a few words from our CEO and the traditional superlative company awards. Jen won the TMZ award - the person in the office who is most likely to know all the happenings and gossip. Mel won the award for person most likely to say the wrong thing at the wrong time. It was a great evening!

It snows every night at Tempe Marketplace

Devin and I are Christmas partied out. His work Christmas party was on Wednesday night and mine was Thursday night. We made a bet on who's Christmas party would be more awkward. You all know how Christmas parties go as you try and mingle with coworkers and their spouses. Devin thought mine would be and I thought his would be.

Devin's work party was at Dave and Busters in Tempe. Essentially it's Chuck-E-Cheese for adults. They had a buffet dinner with chicken, steak, rolls, potatoes, and salad. Then we all got $15 game cards, which we found hard to spend. We played the typical skeeball, shoot-em-up, car racing, basketball shooting type of games. After that we played probably every silly game that we'd never play if we actually had to pay for it. Wack-a-Mole, Johnny Apple Seed, and all those games which you play only to get tickets. At the end we spent our money and got a lot of tickets which we redeemed for candy and this cute stuffed monster for Zander.

BSA Awards Banquet

We spent our Friday date night at the Boy Scout of America Awards Banquet. My dream date.

I felt a little out of place being the only one not in a scout shirt, but the evening was a lot of fun. We carpooled to the event with the Tietjans and Johnsons from our ward. We had a wonderful Mexican feast and enjoyed entertainment by the Order of the Arrow who performed Native American dancing. Devin (jokingly) says we are booking them for Zander's next birthday party. Nathan, who is the Scout Master and works with Devin and the deacons, and his wife Kami both received awards. Cara was surprised to win the Spark Plug award, which she had no idea what that even was.

I am honestly thankful for the BSA program. While Devin devotes a lot of time to scouting and the deacons, I know that he is serving the Lord and preparing these young men as they grow into adulthood.

Devin and I both got home early from work so we went on a family bike ride to the park. In the few weeks we've had bikes, I have learned that we take a bike ride around the neighborhood first and then go to the park last. Once Zander is at the park, he doesn't want to leave and cries all the way home. It also means that he doesn't want to take any pictures in the fall leaves like I want him to. I'll have to retry in an area that doesn't include a play set and swings.

18 Months Old

We joke that he knows math since he can solve problems like 1+1, 2x1, 4/2. The only number he knows is 2. * Has expanded his vocabulary. He can say cheese, shoes, bye, turtle, mom, dad, Elmo, juice, two, this, uh-oh * I've never seen him trip, fall, stumble, or hit his head as much as he's done over this last month. The funny thing is that it doesn't phase him at all. He doesn't cry, but rather shakes it off and continues with whatever he is doing. * Loves to throw his diapers in the trash. I think it's the only reason he lets me change his diaper now. * Tries to sing the chorus to "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5. It's hilarious. * Likes to give him Elmo kisses and then makes us give Elmo kisses too. * Probably seen every episode of Season 1 and 2 of Yo Gabba three or four times each. He's got his cousins trained and they turn it on whenever he is at their house. * Has to say hi to Chancho the turtle (hence turtle being one of his words) when we visit Kylies house. He tries to feed him by throwing things into his tank. * Is officially in nursery and I don't have to feel guilty that I leave him in there anymore. * He saw snow for the first time. Liked the feeling of it falling on his face, but didn't like walking in it. * Has become more of a momma's boy. * Has entered into the world of time outs. *

New Friend

Zander has a new friend and he's not letting him out of his sight. Brobee was supposed to be Christmas gift, but we were too excited and gave it to Zander early. We've found out that he's a good buddy to bring in the car, watch Yo Gabba Gabba with, and also makes a great pillow while we are watching tv.

Temple Lights

The Mesa Temple grounds are beautifully decorated in Christmas lights every year. We always make a point of going as it gets us in the holiday spirit. It also takes me back to 2005 when Devin and I first started dating and we went to the see the temple lights with our Institute group. We ended up going off on our own and sat in this one spot by the reflection pool. It's this same spot where Devin proposed to me in September 2006. I tried to take a family picture at this spot, but Zander wasn't cooperating. He was too fascinated by the lights to sit still. Oh well. I'm glad that we could share this experience as a family and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.

We went to cousin Maya's 4th birthday party today. Zander loved playing at the park and swinging on the swings with cousin Tage. The park had a duck pond so we sat in the grass and fed the ducks.

I love Thanksgiving!

This year we went the nontraditional route and went out to eat. We still enjoyed all the regular Thanksgiving fix ins without having to cook or clean up. After our Thanksgiving lunch, we stuck with tradition and headed to the movies. Megan, Devin, Grandpa Reed, Dad, and I saw Tower Heist and the rest of the group, including Zander, saw Happy Feet 2. We spent the afternoon with the Powells, which I had another helping of Thanksgiving dinner and dessert.

We have a lot to be thankful for this year - our family, friends, health, the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, jobs, house, education. This past weekend really made me realize what truly is important and to be thankful for each and every day.

Utah

Our mighty navigators, Devin & Geoff

After receiving some devastating news about our friends Mario and Kassidy, we decided to take a trip to Utah over this past weekend to spend some time with them. We were super excited to get the Kietas and Clawsons on board too. Three months ago, the Merinos moved to Utah to be closer to their families and we can all see what an inspired move that was. I'm glad that we could all get together to show Mario and Kass how much we love and support them through this battle.

While in Utah, we celebrated my 28th birthday, played games, did a session at the Salt Lake Temple, went shopping, squeezed in a little snowboarding, played in the snow, and shared lots of laughs. It was great to be with our friends again!

My birthday is on Thursday. Since we will be out of town this upcoming weekend, we've been celebrating this weekend. I went out with Devin and Zander on Saturday night. We went to dinner at Grimaldis and I did some birthday shopping. I finally got the cute brown boots that I've been searching every where for. Devin says I'm picky. I just had exactly what I wanted in my mind and didn't want to spend money on something I didn't love.

We celebrated with the Merrill crew during Sunday dinner. Mom & Dad spoiled me with a cute outfit and purse with handmade jewelry chains. Megan made me a coupon book which I thought was super thoughtful and useful. The coupons at my house have been stacking up and now I can organize and save money! For dessert, we had my favorite - chocolate cake. It even had "We Love Lucy" spelt out in M&Ms. This weekend was a great way to celebrate my birthday and I'm looking forward to spending the upcoming weekend with our good friends in Utah.

RockBand Fun

Devin and I used to play RockBand all the time. We could play our respective instruments (me the drums & Devin the guitar) in expert mode. Then we sick of playing and had Zander so we haven't played in quite some time.

The other day in the car I heard my favorite RockBand song in the car - Carry on Wayward Son by Kansas - and was dying to play so I invited my sister Kylie and her family over to play. My drum skills are definitely rusty, but I still had fun rocking out. My favorite moments of the night were when we were all singing loudly to Bohemian Rhapsody and Living on a Prayer (much to Stevan's dismay as he hates that song). Wish I would have recorded it!

New Bikes

There is something about getting a new bike that makes you feel like a little kid again.

Devin and I bought new bikes for Christmas. Yep - the Christmas that's a month and a half away. With the gorgeous weather outside, we couldn't wait. Plus I got a bike trailer last Christmas and couldn't deprive Zander from riding to the park any longer.

Zander got to celebrate Halloween two times with two costumes. On Halloween night, he was a lion which is perfect as he likes to growl like a lion. We met up with Mimi, Megan, Jayden, and Tage to go trick or treating together and we had a mini circus - there was a mime, clown, fortune teller, ring master, and lion.

Zander loved trick or treating! He insisted on walking and holding his pail by himself. He even tried going inside people's houses. Like most kids, his favorite part was the candy! The good thing is that he is little and doesn't remember that we have it. We've hidden the candy in the cupboard so we can enjoy treats moderately and not overload on candy.

17 Months Old

Weighs approx 22.5 lbs. * Is figuring out where his eyes and nose are but often times points to his nose and puts his finger inside it. Hopefully I don't have a nose picker on our hands. * Watches Yo Gabba Gabba which I think is dumb. * Has a fake laugh and fake cry, but I think both are still cute. * Loves to give kisses after he watches Devin and I kiss. * Chases us around the house. * Tries on our shoes and tries to walk around in them. * Had his first Sunday in nursery without us. I, of course, had to peak through the window to see how he was doing in between classes. * Likes to stack or line things up in a row. For instance in nursery, he'd rather line up his crayons on the table instead of coloring. * Cut one of his bottom molars. Teeth count = 11. *

Trunk or Treat

Our ward had their annual Trunk of Treat activity last night. It wasn't as good as past years and even ended within an hour and a half of starting. Zander got to trick or treat a little bit and he is addicted to candy. We enjoyed seeing everyones costumes and chatting with friends. I was a bit shocked that people couldn't figure out our costume though. We were MaryAnne, the Skipper, and Gilligan from Gilligan's Island. I guess I need to start picking costumes from current pop culture.

Ward Camp Out

We had our ward camp out at Roosevelt Lake and I was able to convince Kylie and Stevan to go with us. It was the first time they had been camping since moving to Arizona 4 years ago. The ward part was a bit of a bust as only 6 families went - 2 which were us. We still had a lot of fun though! We stayed up late chatting by the fire and eating smores. In the morning, the guys made breakfast as the kids ran around and played games together. We really enjoyed the time together and have decided to plan a family camp out every couple of months.

Superstition Farm

We ditched cleaning and laundry and went to Superstition Farm today. It was a perfect family day activity!

We took a tractor ride, enjoyed petting and feeding the animals, tasted fresh milk, and enjoyed delicious ice cream made on the farm.

I can't believe it's October already! Only 30 more days until Halloween which means we got to get our little tricker treater ready. Mommy and Daddy need candy!

We have decided on our family costume and I am on the hunt for a few more things to get our look perfect. Tonight, I pulled Zander's Halloween pjs out of the closet for the first time and gave him his new trick or treating pail. I think he is getting the hang of it. He can carry it around and even started filling it with spices from our cupboard. I can't wait until Halloween!

Weighs approx 22.5 lbs. * Says "cheese" and knows it means to smile at the camera. * Spent a whole week without us when we went on our cruise. * Tries to jump, but hasn't figured out that means actually getting his feet off the ground. * Climbing up on everything. * Got his 4th haircut. * Can find his belly button. We've been working on eyes and nose. * Stands in his high chair & I know one day he is going to fall out of it. * Loves cookies, but is not satisfied with just 1 cookie. He needs a cookie in each hand. * Still hates his diaper getting changed. Hair Cut #4

I made a promise to myself that as soon as Zander's hair resembled a mullet or got too unruly that we would cut it. That day occurred a few weeks ago, but I was in a bit of denial. After coming to my senses, we went over to Megan's house for trim. His fourth hair cut! He did so well and sat still most of the time (except for the end when he was over it). His hair looks so much better! Thanks Aunty Megan.

Cruise Day 7 - Our Last Day

Our last day. I was sad that our cruise was ending so our day consisted of going around the boat doing a few of our favorite things. We ate as much soft serve ice cream as we could. We people watched on the lido deck. We enjoyed the all you can eat buffet which the final weight gain was 5 lbs for me and 10 for Devin. We took long naps. We played multiple games of Settlers. We played BINGO and lost. We watched the final cruise show which was Carnival Legends. We were so excited to finally see Mom in her costume singing her Madonna song. She did an amazing job and really added her own flair into the performance.

It was hard to go back to reality as we had a whole week of no cooking, cleaning, responsibilities, or work, but we were excited to get back to Zander.

Cruise Day 6 - At Sea

The last two days of the cruise were sea days as we made our way back to Long Beach. I tried to soak up every moment as I knew our vacation was coming to an end soon. I spent the morning laying out by the pool, we had another girl vs boy golf tournament, and we ended the night with our last formal dinner and cruise variety show.

Cruise Day 5 - Puerta Vallarta

Puerta Vallarta was our favorite part of the trip. We went on an all day excursion which included a wild truck ride into the jungle, zip lining in the high tree top canopy, repelling, free falling, tubing down the river, and riding donkeys up the mountain. We finished the day by eating dinner under a large hut and admiring the view of the mountain as it rained. It was the perfect day!

Cruise Day 4 - Cabo San Lucas

Our second day in Cabo consisted of para sailing, more scooter rides, and shopping.

Since we were separated on the first day, we made sure to make our way a shore together and keep a close eye on one another. Devin, Kaylee, Mom, and Dad went para sailing while the rest of us shopped around the flee market. We rented scooters again and found it interesting making our way around town with 4 scooters in tow. Mom didn't know how to steer the scooter and ran into the sidewalk. Poor Ashlee! Ashlee gave a peep show to the locals as she flung open Megan's swimsuit while she was driving. Devin and I almost got into an accident as our bike spun out on a sandy road. We now know why they deter visitors from renting scooters.

Our nights on the boat were just as exciting as our day time excursions. On this night, we participated in karaoke. I bravely got up and sang "Joy to the World" by Three Dog Night. Mom and Lauren got up and sang "When You Say Nothing at All" by Allison Krause. Always the performers, Lauren and Mom auditioned for the Carnival Legends Show. It is the show on the last night of the cruise where you can actually be apart of the show and perform a song from a legend such as Madonna, Britney Spears, Elvis, Frank Sinatra. For the audition, you had to perform a song from your legend and then the audience decided who won. While Lauren didn't win Britney Spears, Mom won Madonna. It was awesome. She spent the last few nights of the cruise listening to "Like a Virgin" and hoped her costume didn't consist of a cone bra.

I played a nail biting game of air hockey against Jarron. Earlier in the day, he beat Devin so I had to defend the honor of my husband. It was a great game and we were tied at 6 - 6 when Jarron hit a shot that made the puck go into his goal.

Cruise Day 3 - Cabo San Lucas

Waiting in the El Morrocco Club for the Comedy Show

When we woke up and went to the lido deck for breakfast, the Mexico shoreline and mountains were right outside the window. We were so excited to be in Cabo and for the day ahead of us!

Our first excursion was a scenic boat tour along the coast and snorkeling at Chileno Beach. It was the first time I've been snorkeling and it was a lot of fun. The fish would literally swim right up to your face. We all had fun exploring the under water reef and seeing how many different colored tropical fish there was. After I was done snorkeling, I enjoyed relaxing on the white sandy beach and taking in the beautiful surrounding. I wish I was able to have my camera while ashore. The boat ride back was hilarious. The crew kept us entertained with dancing and Ashlee and Kaylee showed off some of their moves.

When we were done snorkeling, we all headed to one of the souvenir shops. We bought Zander a shirt and maracas. After paying for our purchase, we soon realized that everyone had left us. Luckily Megan and Eddie were still in the store. We started looking for the crew, but after no luck decided to find some tacos and enjoy our afternoon together. Thank goodness for Eddie and his Spanish! We were able to rent scooters for to tour Cabo.

Cruise Day 2 - At Sea

The second day was a full day at sea and we loved it! No schedule. Just pure relaxation.

Devin and I woke up early to try catch the sunrise. We woke up a bit late and actually never were able to wake up early enough for the sunrise. We spent the morning laying out by the pool and then met up with Olivia and Jarron to play on the water slide. After getting ready for the day, we had a boys vs girls mini golf tournament. The boys lost and wanted a rematch where they lost again.

Dinner was our first formal night. Devin enjoyed the didja (did you ever want to try) appetizer item most nights. He tried shark, frog legs, and alligator. I stuck to the basics - chips & salsa, caesar salad, and soup. On this night, the waiters started performing for us during dinner. They would dance and sing. Ashlee was our resident dancer and got up to dance with Fammy a few times. We ended the night watching the first singing and dancing show in the Spectacular Theater and then watched the comedy show in the El Morocco Club. We didn't stay up too late since we were docking in Cabo San Lucas the next day.

Crusie Day 1 - Setting Sail

We set sail from Long Beach, California on the Carnival Splendor at 4pm. We checked out our cabin with our roomies - Olivia and Jarron. The cabin had a queen bed and two bunk beds which came down from the ceiling. A tight fit for 4 people, but we knew that it would only make for good memories. Plus, we came on vacation to have fun. Not to sleep or hang out in our rooms! Jason & Lauren shared a room with Megan & Eddie. Mom & Dad shared a room with Kaylee & Ashlee.

After hitting the buffet, we explored the ship before dinner. Yes - we ate lunch as soon as we got on the boat and then had dinner a few hours later. This is the main reason we all gained wait during the week. We ate dinner each night at the Golden Pearl Restaurant located in the back of the boat. We had the same table and waiter every night. I miss Fammy!

Our night ended with our first cruise show in the Spectacular Spectacular Theater. We were introduced to the cruise director Todd, the singers and dancers who would be performing the shows, and some of the stand up comedians featured in the comedy club. When we got back to our room, we found our beds turned down for the night, our first towel animal, and the next days itinerary of activities.

We are back from our cruise and I am way behind in blogging. Our trip was AMAZING! The best vacation I have ever taken. I told Devin that every vacation we go on needs to be a cruise here on out. He then reminded me that I had only been on the boat for an hour and seen our room and the buffet. Very true, but I knew the excitement from those first moments on the boat was going to lead to a great week.

In our week away we experienced hours of relaxation, snorkeling at Chileno beach, zip lining through the tropical forest in Puerto Vallarta, scooter rides and a slight accident in Cabo, karaoke, para sailing, repelling, a hilarious strip tease, a Madonna impersonation, mini golf tournaments, delicious tacos, sun tanning, a 7 - 6 victory in air hockey against a mighty competitor, comedians making fun of us, dancing and singing waiters, and lots and lots of laughs. We are already planning our family cruise for next year and we can't wait.

Bowling

Nothing like a little healthy competition to make a game of bowling more interesting. It was team Merrill vs. team Osmond. The Merrills lost terribly, although the highest score in the game was 119 out of 300. You could say that we were all terrible bowlers, but it was fun playing. Zander was mesmerized watching everyone bowl and wanted to join in. Maybe next time bud! I'm sure you'll probably bowl better than all of us.

15 Months Old

Devin, Lauren, and Eddie's birthdays are within the same week so we always get together to celebrate them together. This year we had a bbq and pool party at Jason and Lauren's cute new apartment. Momma Dee always out does herself and comes up with the best birthday cards and thoughtful gifts to make our birthday really special. It was a fun night and I love that we all live close again.

It's official....we need to move! Well, not really. We just need to make some new friends. Devin and I are the last ones in our group still in San Tan Valley. The Kietas moved to Gilbert last year. The Clawsons moved to Phoenix in May and this last week, the Merinos moved to Utah. We were really close with these 3 couples. Before the babies were born, we would all hang out at least 2 - 3 times per week. We watched lots of movies, went out to dinner, played lots of random games (thanks to the Kietas), and enjoyed many laughs. Heck, we even were pregnant and had babies together!

Before the Merinos left, we got together for one last party. Of course food and random games were involved. During the party, we decided we wanted another last get together and decided on dinner for the adults. We ended up going to Texas Roadhouse.

No more rear facing in the bucket car seat for Zander. He got his new big boy car seat right after his birthday. It's like he is discovering a new world as he can see everything sitting forward. He actually enjoys the car now and loves rocking out to music.

The River

Zander and I spent the weekend at the Farrer's river house in Parker, AZ with Kylie, Stevan, and the kids. We wished Devin could have come with us, but he had another scout camp out over the weekend.

It was nice to relax in the sun and be able to go inside the house to cool off.

Kylie and I laid out in the lagoon as the kids built sand castles on the beach. I went on the tube with Ashlen and held on for dear life as Stevan drove the boat in circles. Zander went on the tube with his Aunty Kylie and loved it! He kept putting his hands into the air. We drove to the sand bar and swam in the water.

Pony Tails!

Zander's hair has been growing since March. I love it long and shaggy! Plus it's so cute with all his little curls. It makes me sad to think that one day we will have to cut it. I definitely don't want to be one of those hippy parents with little boys who have hair down to their shoulders. But is it already too long? His hair is long enough for pony tails!

I like to think he is channeling the very sexy David Beckham. If he can rock a pony, then Zander can too!

Devin Merrill, ABA

In May, Devin graduated from Central Arizona College with an Associates Degree in Business Administration. He didn't want to participate in the graduation ceremony, which made me a little sad since it is a huge accomplishment that should be celebrated. Devin has been working full time while fitting in classes here and there. During this last year, he worked full time, fulfilled his calling at church as the deacon's quorum advisor and assistance scout master, became a dad, and took 3 classes each semester. Definitely a lot to take on! I was so proud to get this letter in the mail saying he made the College's Honor List during his hardest semester.

Way to go babe! Zander and I are so proud of you.

The Next Blue Man Group Member

Yes - this was the face of my sweet baby this morning. I am assuming it will look very similar when I get home too.

I got a frantic phone call from Devin this morning while I was at work. "How do you get blue dye out of the carpet?" My thoughts were, how in the heck did blue dye get on the carpet. Then Devin mentioned, "oh yeah, Zander's face is all blue". Zander has been loving the lazy susan cupboard in our kitchen. It has the baking supplies and I find him often grabbing the sprinkles or cupcake holders to play with. I guess he found the food coloring and got it open. I wonder how long it will take to fade?

Camp Geronimo Part II

It was an eventful week at Camp Geronimo. Devin and Brother Tietjen were the only leaders at camp for our 15 scouts. The boys kept them on their toes. Let's just say there was a broken ankle, a few boys who came home early because they missed their family, and a crawdad's head being eaten off for $5.

Devin enjoyed the week outdoors getting to know the boys better. He got to participate with the scouts at all their activities - swimming, horseback riding, hiking, crawdad fishing, archery, rifle shooting, and canoeing. Devin even received a Polar Bear Swim award. Some activities the leaders didn't have to participate in was KP duty in the kitchen or cleaning the lovely out houses.

I'm glad he had a fun week away, but Zander and I are glad to have him home!

13 Months Old

So I am done with the white onesies and numbers, but I still want to document what is happening with Zander each month. He is getting so big and is really developing his little personality. I love it! Here is what is happening at 13 months.

Shakes his head "yes" or "no" when you say it. As you can guess, there has been a lot of "no" head shaking going on these days. * Likes to point at things. * Can't sit still at church. Only 5 more months until nursery! * Became a pro at walking. * Has started saying "mom" but it sounds more like a "mmm" sound. * Is getting better at feeding himself. When he doesn't like something, he'll spit it out of his mouth and either put it in his high chair or throw it on the floor. * Loves peas. * Has become really attached so he doesn't like when we leave the room without him. * Hating his bucket car seat. It's time to upgrade to a forward facing seat this month. * 2 more teeth have popped up so he has 8 total. * Waves hello and goodbye. * Gives open mouth, slobbery kisses. * Can open containers with plastic lids (like a Pringles can) with his teeth. He is so talented!*

Trip to the Farm

While Devin was at scout camp, Zander and I took a trip to the farm over the weekend. Grandma and Grandpa Wooski were so glad to have us there. Zander made his own fun - maneuvering the laundry basket, playing with Grandma's stuffed animals, eating the window shade cords, rearranging Grandma's kitchen, softly petting the cats (ha ha), and feeding the dogs biscuits. He wasn't quite sure about the chickens. I think next time he'll be big enough to explore out in the yard. It was a fun weekend. Can't wait for our next trip.
