Weekend at the Cabin

Devin's systems team won the CEO award in January. Last year the winner's got to drive around in the company car. This year the winners get to enjoy a weekend at the company cabin. We were the first group to enjoy the cabin and it was amazing! To call it a cabin definitely gives you the wrong idea. It's more like a lodge with 6 bedrooms (including 2 master bedrooms).
We headed up to Payson on Thursday night. The ironic part is that I was dying from the heat and wore shorts up there. Little did we know that the storm that was heading our way was as big as it was. The snow fell all day on Friday and Saturday morning until we left. I was planning on working remotely, but we lost power on Friday morning. Good thing I was surrounded by IT guys. I was able to get online and work a few hours before my laptop battery died. The movie marathon plan for the day was derailed when we were without power for 9 hours. We kept busy playing games, indulging in snacks, and playing in the snow. It was a bit disappointing to learn that the power was not expected to come back on at all on Friday and the roads were closed. There were a few couples planning on heading back home on Friday.  We sat around the fire place telling stories about first dates and how we met our spouses. The sun had gone down and it quickly was getting dark when the power came back on.  It was the best news ever!
With the storm still raging on, we decided to pack up and try leave early on Saturday. We had to call someone to plow the driveway as we couldn't get any of the cars out. One of the cars even got stuck as they tried to get out of the neighborhood. It was a bit scary on the drive home, but we all made it home safely. It's crazy to think that we experienced this extreme weather while we were only two hours from home.
